statewide capacity collaborative

Sherwood Trust is a founding partner of the Statewide Capacity Collaborative, a hub of grantmakers in Washington State that work together to align, collaborate, and strategize on how best to strengthen and support the capacity of nonprofits and the statewide nonprofit ecosystem.  Founded in 2010, this collaborative is an opportunity to share lessons learned and best practices with other funders who share a commitment to capacity-building and to seek to bring resources and scale successful programs across our state.

We recently released a statewide report, the Washington State Leadership Scan, to highlight the challenges community members and nonprofit staff face in developing human capital.  See why Sherwood Trust believes investing in leaders helps strengthen nonprofits and our communities, by reading this article.

SCC partners have made aligned capacity-building grants of over $5 million since our founding in 2010.  As of the end of 2015, we have invested more than $500,000 through a pooled fund.

Based on lessons learned from the Nonprofit Ecosystem Report and our strategic planning, the SCC is prioritizing investments in three separate but complementary areas:

  1. Efforts that elevate the profile of the sector through advocacy and public policy;
  2. Strategies to effectively deliver capacity building knowledge and broaden the availability of tools and resources; and,
  3. Leadership development at local, regional, and statewide levels.
